What I learned about Podcasts and future use..

There certainly is a good bit to know to really understand the total possiblities in podcasting. I had some difficulty trying to download to an mp3 server on my computer and also with getting the podcast onto box.net. I think I will blame these problems on the computer. It was much more fun and interesting in making the actual podcast and trying to edit it some. The ability to add music to the podcast should certainly create alot of interest in students. I am not sure how many students have already posted links to their blogs in regards to their podcasts? They are probably much more aware of this process than I was to begin with. It would still be a very good learning process for students if they are given a project and guidelines for doing their podcast. When video is thrown in the mix, the podcast becomes a very
attention getting device for students. It is not hard to wonder that some students might choose to do some not so good things with some of their podcasts. This would be a concern for teachers. I only know the most basic of the podcasting techniques, but would like to learn more for the use of incorporating it into the classroom. I can think of students doing their reports using a podcast as one of many possiblities.

Delicious and Flickr - Official Blog #4

In learning about applying tags through Delicious and Flikr, it appears that these activities will be a help to both teachers and students. The student can tag information or pictures they may wish to use for class projects. The teacher can tag sites, pictures and videos that seem relavent to future lesson planning.
No longer will a file cabinet need to be filled with material that may be needed at a latter date. Both pictures and documents can be instantly saved on the internet and recalled when teachers are planning lessons or when students are sharing information with each other for a class project. The sharing aspect should be a big help to teachers once colleagues are aware of this aspect of Delicious and Flickr. I have a lot to learn about this process, but it does seem like a very quick(time saving) way to save, organize and share documents of interest. I definitely need some time saving and organizing assistance.

Official Blog #3 for Web 2.0 Student/Teacher Use of Wikis in the Classroom

Stewart Mader, an instructional Technologist at Brown University, had several insights about wikis in the classroom. http://coolcatteacher.blogspot.com/2006/04/wikis-in-education-stewart-mader-from.html He wondered if fear of the unknown was holding some teachers back. He also sighted a need to move away from textbook models and toward the use of wikis, internet and technology. The would agree that this would expand the base of information that each student can pick from. He mentions that students are more accepting of change. One thing is for sure, is that they are more aware of many of the things out in cyber space both good and bad. Students in a blog about wikis http://coolcatteacher.blogspot.com/2006/05/my-students-compare-and-contrast-wikis.html were extremely excited about the use of wikis in the classroom. They like the ability to share information and to organize information to study for tests. The also liked the ease of edition the informaion on the wikis. This technology certainly seems to be the wave of "now" and the future. It is hard to believe that I was unaware of most of the current web 2.0 tools for education before this class. My hope is to better understand the use of the wiki in the classroom and translate it into positive teaching outcomes in the near future.

Learning about Adding Photo Images

I have been trying to add photo images to my wiki and to my blog accounts yesterday and today. It was very slow going at first. Where are all the tech people when I need one? "My computer beat me at checkers, but I sure beat it at kickboxing" by Emo Phillips/ That is exactly how I felt after two or three rounds with my computer and trying to download photo images. I think I may now have a basic idea of how to do it. It was not the directions that were the problem, it was who was following the directions! There may never be anyone that desires to view this blog or wiki, but they are for a good cause. No, I'm not going to say "These were the best of times, these were the worst of times" but it did cross my mind. All the best to the world.

We are in week two or three of web 2.o. We are learning about wikis. I am just new concerning the use of wikis. It is still very much a learning process for me. I just created a reader so that I can have sent to me subscriptions of blogs that I would like to read frequently. I have also been trying to work on my wiki but it has been very slow going. Hope everyone out there is having a blessed day on this gorgeous Saturday that we have been given.

Use of Blogs in Instruction

Blogs having many ways they can be used for instruction. It helps the students interact with each other. It lets people voice varying opinions on a topic. It can allow for easy editing of material to be learned when new material needs to be added. It gives the student the ability to change and easily revise information they want to use on learning topics. The student can gather information from many more sources by going to blogs than the traditional use of a text book and possibly one or two research books. I am just learning what blogs can do for increasing learning. Two sites that I used to research this topic were http://mrsaubertin.21classes.com/ and http://people.uis.edu/reschrl/onlinelearning/blogger.html . I hope to learn more although it is tough on my brain at the present time. Bye, For Now.

teachers, teaching and life longlearning

Good teachers are needed today more than ever. They need to be up to date, creative and care about the actual learning of the students. Some teaching today is simply geared toward responding to preconceived questions. This is teaching but teaching should be more about helping the student to explore the information and make choices and decisions as they learn. Teaching should not be just about coming up with the answer that the teacher wants but then again, this is important when doing math and rules of the subject matter. Can anyone say 1 +1 =3. IN other word, students should be educated so that they can then think for themselves and search out the truth in what ever subject they are studying.
Lifelong learning is essential for everyone. It is needed to learn new skills in whatever activities that one might wish to partake. I can say from experience that learning new things can be a real challenge. The skys' the limit when we strongly pursue a desire to learn a new skill. It also helps to brush up on old and not very often used skills.

Student Learning About Blogs, Wikis, etc.

I think we have created a blog for the class called web 2.0. I found it some what difficult to create the blog, but it has finally been created (I think?). I need to learn more to improve on my technological skills. I sometimes think that computers are just a fad but we shall see.
